MUSIC SETS THE TABLE
The Spirituality Series is our only official fundraiser for the food pantry and the soup kitchen of our church. We receive no federal, New York State, Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County or Village of Patchogue financial support. Numerous musicians donate their time and talents, as do raffle basket assemblers, pastry bakers, apron designers, local business gift certificate donors, and many others. The concert/bazaar is usually slated around Valentine’s Day. Last year, the result was a very successful fundraiser. In addition to Music Sets the Table, we also presented The Spirituality of the Blues, which was a fundraiser for the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence. About sixty businesses either donated money or gift baskets for raffles. We raised $2,000 for the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence, $5,000 in cash for the food pantry, and $2,000 (estimated value) in non-perishable food. Yes, we are in a recession and yes, raising money is a lot of hard work. But you did it! Let us not forget the core of what this is about: feeding hungry people. Jesus told all of us that we could find him whenever and wherever we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit those in prison (including the prisons of addiction, poverty, loneliness, and greed). The church and the greater community (particularly musicians and friends) did well in the eyes of the church, in the eyes of God, and hopefully in the eyes of each other!
